Our state government has structural flaws that keep it from fixing our problems, and our election rules are standing in the way of voting for candidates who truly represent us.
This is how we will remedy these flaws:
General Assembly
- Make the General Assembly full time to give our legislators the time they need to understand complex problems and develop effective solutions.
- Reduce the overwhelming authority of the Speaker of the House and the Senate President and give our legislators more power to represent us.
State Departments
- Require departments to stop unnecessary outsourcing and hire more policy experts.
- Require departments to fully enforce state regulations.
- Require the Department of Environmental Management to obey the Natural Areas Protection Act of 1993 law.
Elections
- Adopt a proportional representation election system to improve voter representation in our government.
- Establish an independent redistricting commission to increase the fairness of electoral maps.
- Add election day holidays to boost voter participation.
- Reduce the amount individuals, state parties, and PACs can contribute to campaigns and expand public campaign financing to shrink the amount of money in elections.
- Open up ballot access to take away the advantage well-financed campaigns have to get on.
